where one of the women being interviewed about equality in sport said that it would only happen when men and women competed together in teams and on equal terms. The interviewer was sceptical, but I thought - yes, you're right!
From that moment we started to work on a race concept that would be accessible to everyone, where women and men could compete with each other and for each other. In late August 2017 the first mixed mile relays were held in Birkenhead Park, with just a few brave teams. There were no rules about running order, the only rule was that a team had to be 2 women and 2 men. The team from Wirral AC set an unoffical English record of 19:47, which was pretty good!
For the next year we then knocked on a lot of doors to help us expand the concept on a larger scale.
During the Spring of 2018 we met the team from Ron Hill, who could genuinely see the future for mixed relays. We were helped in this process by the growing emergence of International events that allow men and women to race together in teams.
Today we are proud to organise the Ronhill British Mile Relays
